A genuinely rare Tasmanian early Colonial period folding card table, in finely figured Australian cedar with linings of Huon pine. The rounded rectangular top finely crossbanded, opening to a felt lined interior, with original turned pendant finials making it very up-to- date 1845 taste. The column of facetted baluster form, on a concave fronted, crossbanded base, with scrolled feet with disc turned paterae to the sides. Supported on the original fine steel patent casters. Revived original finish. Barely a handful of Tasmanian Colonial period card tables are known. Ex Stanfield family, Green Point, Tasmania. Daniel Stanfield was a Royal Marine & First Fleeter, arriving in Sydney in 1788 on the Sirius. He transferred to Norfolk Island in 1790, and thence to Tasmania in 1808.
